FAQ
GENERAL INFORMATION:
What is The Mixing Table? The Mixing Table is a new solution designed to provide your family with delicious and nutritious meals at home and more time to enjoy life. We take care of all of the menu planning, shopping, and preparation of the food before you arrive. Our carefully designed store allows you to both efficiently prepare your meals and invites you to relax while enjoying complimentary snacks and drinks…and of course we handle all of the clean up after you’re done. In less than two hours at our store, you can prepare up to 12 meals that can be taken home and cooked, or frozen, to be cooked at a later date. This saves more than 20 hours per month, that we're sure you can find a use for.
How much does this cost? The Mixing Table offers multiple options. You can prepare 6 or 10 meals that can feed 4-6 people (large) or 2-3 people (small). The average price per serving is between $3 and $4, and would be slightly higher for organic options.
What is included in a meal? Each meal is intended to serve as a hearty entrée, and in some cases includes a side dish. Additional side dishes, desserts, and baked goods are available in our Pick-a-Mix freezer.
How many people does one meal serve? Meal sizes vary depending on appetites. For example, a large chicken breast entrée contains 6 chicken breasts, while the small size contains 3 breasts. Additionally, for no extra charge you can split the large size entrees to make double the meals for your smaller family where feasible i.e. chicken breast or pork chop entree vs. a large roast.
How long does it take? After you're familiar with the process (one session under your belt) it should take about 1 hour to prepare 6 meals and 90+ minutes for 10 meals.
How do I sign up? Signing up for a session is easy. Whether it is an in-store session, a private party, or pick-up service, we have a page dedicated to each of these services. Please click on one of the links below for more information: 1. Start Mixing 2. PreMix Fare 3. Schedule a Mix'r (Private Party)
Can I order more than one of any given meal? If you are going to be hosting a dinner party in the near future and would like to order larger quantities than the small or large entree size, just give us a call at (508)336-3369.
May I bring a friend? You may bring someone with you to help assemble your meals, and children over the age of 12 are welcome. Please either call the store to let us know that you will be bringing a guest. Please note that if you bring a friend or helper with you and over-crowding occurs, for safety reasons they may be asked to have a seat in our customer lounge area.
Can I bring my child with me? For your safety and the safety of your children, we ask that no one under the age of 12 years old attend our regular sessions.
Can I adjust the recipes during assembly? PLEASE DO! These are your meals, so you should make sure that they are prepared the way your family wants them. Feel free to delete ingredients that your family doesn’t care for, or add a bit more of an ingredient that you particularly like. Additionally, our staff has tasted each menu item and is happy to answer any questions you may have while you're assembling your meals.
Will there be anything to eat or drink during my session? This wouldn’t be as much fun if you couldn’t enjoy some food and drinks during your session. Often beverages and snacks are provided on a complimentary basis, and you are free to bring your own beverages as well.
I’m not a great cook. Are these meals easy to prepare at home? Our meals have been designed to reduce/eliminate the preparation at home so that you can use meal time hours to be with your family, rather than slaving over a stove. Most meals require only that you take the food directly to a specific cooking method (oven, skillet, grill, crock pot, etc.) and cook for a specified period of time. Cooking instructions are also available to view in advance.
How long can I store my meals in the refrigerator or freezer? Typically meals can be kept in a refrigerator for 3-5 days, depending on the ingredients (as an example, chicken has a shorter refrigeration shelf life than beef). While most of your meals can be kept in a freezer comfortably for up to three months, we recommend that meals you freeze be consumed within 30 days of your session for optimal taste and texture.
If I don’t have time to come to The Mixing Table to assemble my meals, what other options do I have? We are happy to assemble your meals for you to pick up at our store at a scheduled time. The fee for this assembly service is $18 for a 6 entree package and $30 for our 10-entree package. Also, we will soon be offering delivery service within a limited geography, so check back with us for the ultimate in convenience. In addition, come see our Pick-A-Mix freezer for a great selection of frozen pre-assembled meals, side dishes, morning pastries, and desserts that are available anytime. If you're so inclined, feel free to call us on your way over, and we'll even take something out of our freezer and start defrosting it for you for dinner that night.
Does The Mixing Table accommodate disabilities including wheelchairs? Our staff will be happy to accommodate any special needs you may have during a session. Please let us know if you need any assistance.
SCHEDULE A MIX'R:
What Is a Mix'r? A Mix'r is our term for a private party, and it is a fun way to spend time with your friends and family while also making some meals! If you have 8 guests including yourself, we will close the store for you. Here's how it works: * Your guests select their own entrees and meal package (minimum of 3) and pay individually. * At your party, you can enjoy any station on our satellite radio, flat screen television, or your own iPod music. * Enjoy our complimentary snacks and beverages. * Each person in the group will receive a free signature dessert.
How do I book a Mix'r? If you are interested, click on the Schedule a Mix'r section of our website, email us at info@themixingtable.com with your name, contact information, and the date and time you'd like to schedule your party, or contact the store at (508)336-3369. We will get back to you within 24 hours.
Private Party Passwords A private party password is necessary to R.S.V.P. to a private party. The password is assigned by the party host. If you received an e-mail invitation, the password should have been included in the message. If you do not know your password, please contact your party host.
Rescheduling/Canceling a Party Parties can only be rescheduled by the party host before anyone has R.S.V.P.-ed to the party. To cancel or reschedule a party under any other circumstances, please contact us (508)336-3369.
What happens if I don't have 8 guests registered for my private party? If it is 7 days before your party, and you do not have 10 guests registered, then that session automatically becomes open to the public.
FOOD-SPECIFIC INFORMATION:
How can I use this service if I am on a special diet or food allergies? Our Menu page provides detailed nutritional information, such as, calories, fat, fiber, sodium and carbohydrates for each item on our menu. Since you create the meal you can adjust it to meet your needs just as you would in your own kitchen. Our experienced staff will be happy to assist you in preparing a variety of delicious meals that will help meet your specific needs. Feel free to contact us if you need more information.
Are there vegetarian options? We will always include vegetarian items on our menu. We will also have tofu to be used as a substitute for some of our non-vegetarian menu items. If you would like to substitute with tofu, please make a note of it on the Checkout page, in the box marked for Notes. That way, we'll be sure to have it ready for you when you arrive at your session.
Will my children enjoy the meals? We designed our menu with kids in mind. Also we offer the opportunity to remove any ingredient that your family doesn’t care for. A new selection of meals are offered every month. Return to the top How can I sample the food? You can drop in any time to purchase an individual pre-made dish. In addition, for those customers attending a scheduled session, we often serve samples of our menu items during those sessions.
Where do your recipes come from? Our recipes are designed by industry professionals including a food scientist, local chefs, and a registered dietician, and each entree has been tested for freezability.
TAKING FOOD HOME:
Do I need to bring a container in which to bring my food home? We recommend that you bring a laundry basket or cooler to bring home your entrees. In order to keep within the Food Safety Guidelines, and to maintain the quality of the food, you should take it directly home and place in your freezer or fridge. Once you get home, use your freezer card to help you remember which items you've brought home. Then once a week, decide how many entrees you'll need for those busy nights, check them off on your freezer card, and put them in the refrigerator to thaw. On the night you'll be using a meal from The Mixing Table, simply follow the cooking instructions on the package.
Packaging/Freezer Space Our meals are packaged in a variety of containers that will easily fit in any standard size freezer and still leave room for your ice-cream, frozen veggies, and other frozen foods. We do recommend, however, that you clean out your freezer before you arrive, as you will be better able to fit everything in, and get rid of the things that you may have forgotten were in there! Return to the top Returning Food Products For health and safety reasons, we are not permitted to accept food returns. We do, however, want you to be completely satisfied. If you have an issue with a product purchased at The Mixing Table, please contact us at 508-336-3369.
What do I need to know about cooking in a crock-pot? The crock-pot is safe enough to leave turned on low all day. Keep the lid on, as it takes about 20 minutes to recover the lost heat each time it is lifted off. Never put frozen food in the slow cooker expecting it to thaw. Also, don't reheat leftovers in a slow cooker.
